Canadian Bridge Federation Multi-Level Events

Multi-level events run by the CBF are:

  • CNTC - The Canadian National Team Championships.  There are two separate events: Flight A is open to all, Flight B is open to all players nder 1500 ACBL masterpoints on September 1 of the year the event begins.  Qualifying at the club level begins in September and club qualifying games can be run until early January.  The next stage is the Zone Final, held in the spring.  The top teams from the Zone Final are invited to play in the National Final, held at the annual CBF Bridge Week.  The winner is normally Canada's representative at the next World Championship.
  • COPC - The Canadian Open Pairs Championship.  This is a pairs event with club qualification leading directly to the National Final at CBF Bridge Week.   The COPC National Final is a four-session event which begins after the semifinals of the major team events have ended.
  • CWTC - This event has no club level: the first level of qualification is the Zone Final in the spring.  The top teams from the Zone Final are eligible to compete in the National Final at CBF Bridge Week.  The winner is normally Canada's representative in women's teams at the next World Championship.

It should be noted that to participate at the National Final or Zone Finals of these events, one must be a paid up member of the CBF.  This usually is included with ACBL membership but can be paid separately.  Some events have provisions for entering the national finals without qualifying by paying a buy-in fee to the CBF.  Check the CBF website for full details.

There are other events that the CBF runs each year, including a Spring and a Fall Rookie-Master game, an extensive Junior program, several side events at CBF Bridge Week without qualification requirements: a Seniors Teams Championship, a Canadian IMP Pairs Championship, and a fund-raising Regional following Bridge Week.  The CBF also publishes the bilingual magazine Bridge Canada, a CBF web page, and has a very active charity program.

Rookie-Master Game Winners: Gray McMullin and Silvana Trotter
18 tables of rookies and masters at the VBC

Here are the happy winners!

The winners scored 60.42% to top the field (except for a few ineligible pairs due to a surplus of masters).  Second overall and leading the North-South field was Heather Garrison and Donna-Faye Madhosingh with 58.52%.  The hand records for the game were miscopied by the CBF resulting in Boards 23-30 not appearing on the sheet, but the missing page can be viewed online here.
