2010 Unit 430-sponsored District-Wide Sectional Tournament at Clubs (STaC), June 7 - 13
Silver Points at your local club! Open to all District 19 ACBL clubs!
This is the 14th annual Unit 430-sponsored STaC. Club players can win extra points, and all silver points, while they warm up for the Penticton Regional! Club Managers will find all of the information they need in the STaC package, which will be available in pdf format in March here. Along with the instructions for clubs, you will also find a report sheet and a 8½ by 11 poster (versions in colour and monochrome) to post at your club to promote the event. There is also a larger version of the same poster that you can print on four sheets and tape together to make a real impression! What is a STaC, anyway? Sectional Tournaments at Clubs bring the tournament atmosphere into the club, allowing players from clubs in a wide area to compete against one another. It's one way for players who live a long distance away from the nearest sectional tournament to win some silver points. The same hands are played at participating clubs across the District, and the pair with the best score in the District, who might win 2 or 3 silver points at their club, will discover they have won 12-14 silver points for topping the District! There are separate District-wide awards for Flight B (under 1500) and Flight C (under 500). Many clubs find that, despite the increased sanction fees, STaC games increase attendance, especially from the largest segment of the ACBL demographic: non-Life Masters who need those silver points to make Life Master. It may be a chance to welcome back some players you haven't seen in a while, or even some new players. All the overall results will be posted here on Matchpointer Online as they come in. Usually by the end of Penticton week we have received results from all of the clubs. Last year's leaders were Peter and Judy Siegenthaler of Cranbrook BC, who won 29.74 silver points during STaC week! 763 players (and probably about 100 more who didn't earn any masterpoints) played at over two dozen clubs throughout the District during STaC week, winning over 1,500 silver points in total. The local Coordinator for this year's STaC is Rita Dodge. The Director-In-Charge for the 2010 STaC is Steve Bates of Edmonton. You will find their contact information in the STaC package. |
